1/10/2011 Product or Service Involved: Paramax I know someone close who was scammed today into buying Paramax P-512 in Nashua, NH. A well dressed man in a VW approached him citing he bought 2 of these and received 3 by mistake so he was selling it off. He had a friend that was supposed to buy it but there was an issue and he just wanted to get rid of it. Retail was $2999 and showed receipt as well as price on the box. He wanted $700 or so and got talked down to $250. Doing my homework I see that this is not a new scam and is international! Since I don't see any postings yet for this area, I figured I do my part to help. Be aware!

2/12/2009 Product or Service Involved: Genesis Media Labs While leaving the Gym in a small shopping plaza, a red ford minivan with illinois plates pulled along side me and a young skinny white guy said he had a very random question to ask me. He said he worked for a home theater installation company in Brockton massachusetts. And due to some warehouse foul up, he had one too many "high end" speaker systems he would like to sell for a bargain. Im not a hardcore audiophile, but I know good stuff when I see it, And although I didnt know the brand, there is always new brands springing up, the description on the side of the Unopened box seemed legit. Anyway I finally agreed and ended up paying a good sum of money ($350), for what turned out to be complete crap. The dome tweeters in the enclosures are just paper cones glued to the front speaker grill. Th midranges were what you might find in old set of walkie talkies from K-mart, rated at a staggering 6watts. All while the amp boasts 2000 watts, hmmm. I cannot believe my stupidity.

2/21/2008 Product or Service Involved: Speakers I was in the Home Depot Parking lot in Portsmouth and was getting into my truck when I saw a beige van pull up behind me with two guys waving for me to come out. My immediate though was they needed directions. I stuck my head out of my truck and one of the guys asked me if I wanted to buy some speakers. I started laughing and said no. They tried a little more to get me interested and I just kept saying no rolled up my window and they left. The reason why I started laughing was because this had been the 4th time this happened to me. The first time was over 15 years ago in Salem NH when I was in high school. The second time happened again when I was in high school in Salem and the third time happen to me in Lowell MA while I was in college. Luckily I never bought them on any of the occurrences because I didn’t have the need or the money when I was a kid and now I just know better.

9/21/2007 Product or Service Involved: Kirsch Loudspeakers Light Blue Pacifica w/ Rhode Islad tags pulls up next to me at a light waiving some yellow paper saying.... "You will never believe this, but we just finished an install job up down the street and the guy shipped us 7 extra units and doesn't want them back. Pull over and let me show you them and see if you want to buy one?" The pull over into the next parking lot, passenger gets out introduces himself and opens the back door where they have stacks of these boxes. He opens an audio magazine and shows me the model and that it goes for $2300. He says that he wants $1000 for it and I wished him luck and turned around to get in my truck. He then says what were you thinking and I offer him $100 and told him I don't need or want one. He says he really wants to just dump them and go home and says make an offer. I told him I had 2 hundred dollar bills on me and would buy one for that. He said there is an ATM right around the corner, go grab some more money. I say I am going and then he asks if I have a bag of weed to give him and $200 each, I turn and walk towards the truck and he said $200 and buy us a beer if we see you in the bar later on. I give him $200, he throws the thing in the back of my truck and I leave. I read up when I get home and realized it was junk.

7/3/2004 Product or Service Involved: Unknown Brand Name Two guys in the SUV and drove around the parking lot and stop people for selling the home theater systems and speakers. They show me their receipt and declared those home theater systems was not stolen. They also show me the magazine advertisement the price of those home theater systems worth $2499. They said they can sell me like $499. Only one guy did all the talking, the other one stay at the passage seat all the time. Luckily, I already had home theater systems at home so I did not fall into the scam.

9/24/2003 Product or Service Involved: theater research tr-3015 On my way dropping my roomate off to work. the driver of a white mini van asked me at a stop light in downtown keene whether i wanted some speakers for free. i told him to follow me and he followed me to a parking lot across a church. he told me he worked for an audio dealership in woburn, mass and that he had been sent the wrong speakers and that he wanted to sell them to make some money because his boss would just keep the excess inventory. he showed me the purchase order and it had the same model speakers on it and showed me a catalog that had the price listed at over 1500 each for the speakers. i told him i was interested but i didn't have much spare money because i'm supporting myself and barely have enough for rent. he followed me to a bank where i got 450 dollars and he then followed me to my apartment where we made the transaction after i ensured the speakers in the box were the same in the catalog. The license plate was from connecticut and i think it was a plymouth voyager not sure if it was grand voyager or what, but it was white. there were 2 guys in the van, both had goatees and there was also a girl. all of them looked to be in their early 20's. He then asked if me and my roomate smoked marijuana and proceeded to say that he had hash and asked if i wanted to see it after i told him i didn't use. I want to know if there is anyway i can get my money back because im nearly broke. any information will be helpful.

8/21/2003 Product or Service Involved: DOGG Digital Audio Speakers The same exact scenario happened to me as everyone else. I knew the guys were full of crap, I just assumed they were stolen speakers or something. It was at the Bank of NH parking lot of Bedford NH, on my prom night. The guy convinced me to run into the bank and take out 200 bucks for the speakers. I took them home and the first thing i did was look them up on the internet. The DOGG website checked out (although apparently that's all bogus too). After plugging them in, I was actually quite pleased with the sound quality. I was convinced that they were legit, and to this day they still throw out some excellent sound. I was going to sell them, but now that I know they are basically worthless, I might as well keep them. In all, I'm still satisfied with the transaction, and consider the speakers to be a great deal, because they have very high quality sound.

8/10/2002 Product or Service Involved: Denmark speakers While walking through the home depot parking lot i was approached by two younger men driving a green chevy 2500 van. Kelfi was written on the side of the van. They asked me if i wanted to buy speakers, they told me that they had received extra on their shipment. of course this sounded like a dream come true. so i said i would look at the speakers. they said that they were just looking for a few bucks for the speakers. well they came at the perfect time for me since i had just got a new apartment and was lookin to hook it up nice. I asked how much and they pulled out a spec sheet with the msrp of 1200 dollars a speaker and said this is what my boss gets but we are just looking for something fair to split between the two of us. He offered three sets to me for $7000 i replied that there was no way that i could do that so i offered him $4000. they discussed the offer and shortly came back and said that that would be acceptable. Totaly amped i had them follow me to the bank where I withdrew my life savings, which i planned to recover by selling the 3rd set on ebay, exchanged the money for the speakers and ran home to enjoy my new professional grade home audio system. I later found out that the speakers are less than professional grade and are worth next to nothing. to make a long story shorter i gave them every thing i had and now i have speakers that suck and an empty bank account.

7/24/2002 Product or Service Involved: Digital Pro Audio Speakers I was walking to my car when two guys in a Grey Ford Windstar Van (complete with dents) gave me the run-around about some 5.1 Speakers; they had "excess inventory." Everything looked authentic, invoice, brochure, he kept telling me "don't be nervous." Whatever. I walked away after making an excuse. I did some research on the net... http://www.design4you.com/u/dpa/default.asp?pid=1 Don't be surprised if the above link doesn't work, these speakers do work I guess, horrible reviews by Audio Review, street price (pun) is about 150$. Don't fall for any of the numbers, the last thing he said to me was $40...heh, I still said No

7/11/2002 Product or Service Involved: Denmark speakers This time it was a blue van with the white lettering Denmark Speakers on the side. $1400 speakers, I offered 100, they balked and moved on. I had seen this scam over 15 years ago in a nearby town, the speakers were 75 back then. These guys were installers with extra inventory, but there were no tools, wires, or other hardware in the back of the van.

6/13/2002 Product or Service Involved: Digital Pro Audio Slim Line Tower 2.8 I was at a local car wash washing my jeep when 2 guys in a pretty beatup Red Ford Windstar Minivan (NH license plate 137-9845) pulled in behind me and shouted something like "hey you wanna buy some speaker for your home?" they did the same routein about how they accidentaly got over loaded at the wear house they were suposed to get 6 speakers but instead they got more. A heavier set blond man stayed in the passengers seat the whole time while the other Man; short brown/black hair big eyes, and about 5'10"-6' in height shoved a yellow invoice with the number 6 in my face then showed me some nicely made full color inserts with prices such as $999ea for concert speakers. and $1,195 for Tower Speakers. I offered him $100 for a pair to which he responded "well you know we dont wanna just give 'em away" An employee of the carwash walked over to see what the comotion was and they started pitching to him. he asked what would happen if they just returned them to the warehouse and the heavy set fellow made his speaking debut saying "oh thats happened before our boss just resold them himself and tossed us $50 a piece, we want the profits this time" I finaly whent back to him and offered him $150 for the pair to which he replied "well you know that's not even 100 a piece" so I offered him $200 for the pair and he agreed. Soon after he asked if I'd buy them a 30 pack for getting such a great deal to which I told him I wasn't even 21 and he said I could just give him an extra $20. I refused and he handed me the speakers out of the back of the van as I walked and put them in my jeep then I gave him the cash and they left. The area here is flooded with people as it's "Bike Week" and 76 year old anual motorcycle rally. I'm assuming these guys are making a killing this week. The thing that sold me was the fact that they guys seemed to be complete knuckle heads and all the promo and boxes seemed more profesional than a do-it-yourself job. some of the markings such as "dvd" and "compact disc" on the speaker box I was a little weary of but I was sold by the fact that these two probably aren't bright enough to make this up on there own and the pair was $200. at one point I asked if I could open up a box to check it out (just to make sure it wasn't filled with bricks or something) and the guy said "sure go right ahead" after opening it he grabbed a little card and explained a 3 year warranty... I wonder if they'd honor that warranty if say, they fell out a window...

2/4/2002 I was in Salem NH, walking into the post office from my car when a green van with two guys pulled over and asked if I wanted speakers. They said they had 4 extra pairs, and showed reciepts, adds, etc. Eventually i was suckered into buying 2 for $400. They got me, so watch out. What a complete scam.
